Cornell Cooperative Extension and the regional Capital Area Agriculture & Horticulture Program are pleased to invite farmers and agricultural professionals to a tour of Ardent Mills and a networking event with local organic grain buyers, Friday, June 23, 2023, from 1:00 to 4:30pm. This free event hosted by Ardent Mills will introduce farmers to the mill which is purchasing local soft red winter wheat. Regional mills and bakers who buy organic grains will also participate, introduce their businesses and connect with farmers.

Ardent Mills is the largest flour mill east of the Mississippi, with a capacity of over two million pounds of flour per day. The mill in Albany, NY is looking to purchase soft red spring wheat from regional farmers. This tour is an opportunity for farmers to learn about the mill and the logistics of selling soft red winter wheat. Farmers growing organic food grains (including corn) will also have an opportunity to learn about and network with grain buyers from Milestone Mill, Middle Brook Mill, Philmont Community Bakery, Vermont Tortilla Company, and others.

Building the local grain economy has been an on-going and cooperative effort among Cornell University, the University of Vermont, Cornell and Vermont Cooperative Extensions, the Northeast Grainshed Alliance, the Glynwood Center for Regional Food and Farming, and others. This tour of Ardent Mills and grain marketing event will help to strengthen our local grain economy. Farmers and agricultural professionals are invited to attend.
